Welcome Readers

First of all, I’d like to thank you for visiting my website and my blog page. With this first blog, I’d like to introduce myself and my company, Fitin Skills, talk to you about why we’re here, and how we can add value to you.

Where it all started

My name is Lusine Magakian and I am the founder of Fitin Skills. My career began in the BIG4 world, after graduating with a BSc in Economics from the University of Barcelona. I worked for EY’s audit team in Barcelona, but I desperately wanted to move to London. It wasn’t long after expressing my hopes and wishes that I got accepted into Santander’s Talent Scholarship Programme. The scholarship was covering a Master’s degree in Banking and Risk and an internship in Santander UK. And there I was, with my life packed in a suitcase heading towards the UK.

Once in the UK, I spent some time working in recruitment, where I had the opportunity to recruit for the largest financial entities and strategy consultancies. This was a great experience, where I gained a really good understanding of what makes recruiters tick and was exposed to over 1,000 CVs ranging from horrific to excellent.

Following that experience I re-joined the banking industry again and I worked hard to move up the ladder within that industry. I worked for companies such as Santander UK, Lloyds Banking Group and HSBC, where I worked in various risk management positions. Although the journey wasn’t always smooth, it was definitely full of valuable life lessons.

As a young and naïve girl who came alone to the UK, moving to London was definitely a big eye opener for me. Getting into the ruthless and competitive world of banking was an even bigger eye opener for me. I sometimes wonder, “How did I make it?” Well, I don’t know, but had I known about the concept of career coaches back then, I’d definitely have worked with one and perhaps part of the bumpy road that everyone faces in their career life would have been less bumpy.

With this last thought in mind and with a nature that likes to help others, I volunteered myself to mentor junior colleagues as they were starting in the company. I enjoyed these mentoring sessions so much that I actually ended up enrolling myself in a professional Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching and decided to turn my passion into my profession. That’s how Fitin Skills was born.

Moving it on

The aim of Fitin Skills is to provide tailormade career coaching sessions for your specific needs. My mission is to give you the skills you need to fit in your dreams. As a career coach I will partner with you in a thought-provoking and creative way to help maximise your personal and professional potential. Your dreams are the career goals that you aspire to achieve and through self-discovery, accountability, the usage of specific coaching tools and resources, I’ll work closely with you so that in each session I can get you one step closer to your goals.

Some people have clear goals that they aim to reach, such as getting a promotion, making a career change, improving their performance, dealing with expatriate “syndrome”, etc. However, more often than not, we don’t know what we want, all we know is what we don’t want. Which means that we end up acting as the Captain of an aimless boat sailing through unfriendly waters. This is the exact recipe to cause high levels of stress, dissatisfaction and a sense of failure. During the coaching sessions that Fitin Skills offers, I will help you to get rid of all these unhealthy beliefs that stop you from moving forward and to instead find your true purpose, so that you can focus all your energy towards it and get your ship back to the right course. Because, as Seneca said back in the day, “There is no favourable wind for the sailor who doesn’t know where to go.”

What else

I’m aiming to start blogging on a regular basis. Here, in the “Career Advice” page of the website, you’ll find information about career coaching as well as career advice either backed by solid research or real-life experience of subject matter experts.

As my audience, I’d like to engage with you on a regular basis to see what career topics you’re most interested in, so I can focus my efforts on writing good content about those specific topics. Your opinion and constructive feedback will always be welcome, which you may express by leaving a reply below this or any other post. With this in mind I’d encourage you to give it a thought and let me know what career-related topics interest you most and that you’d be keen to learn more about.

Fitin Skills will also be running networking events for likeminded people, so you can expand your network within your industry. A well-established network is not only a long-term investment where you can meet new people and gauge new career opportunities in order to climb up the career ladder. Networking can also lead to lifelong friendships, who can expand your horizons, boost your self-esteem and give you the opportunity to exchange ideas.

Hopefully, you have a better idea of what Fitin Sills is here for and how I can help you personally as a career coach. Whatever career goal you have in mind, you’re not alone. We’re here to help you to walk like you talk it.

Now go ahead and sign up to the Fitin Skills website, so we can keep in touch and let you know every time a new blog or event has been published.
